Impinj, Inc. (NASDAQ: PI), a leading RAIN RFID provider and IoT pioneer, has signed a licensing agreement with EM Microelectronic, a semiconductor specialist in ultra-low power, low voltage ICs. The agreement allows EM Microelectronic to integrate Impinj’s next-generation Gen2X technology into its future endpoint ICs.
The collaboration aims to extend Gen2X performance advantages across EM’s product lines, including its RAINFC dual-frequency ICs. These chips are designed to expand RFID capabilities beyond traditional applications, improving performance in established use cases while enabling adoption in new industries and market segments.
“We are committed to enabling a broader ecosystem of product and technology providers to deliver powerful solutions to an array of market segments and use cases,” said Gahan Richardson, EVP and General Manager, Impinj Business Unit. “We’re thrilled to extend Gen2X performance advantages to EM Microelectronic and look forward to the innovations this collaboration will foster.”
Pierre Muller, RFID Business Unit leader at EM Microelectronic, added that integrating Gen2X would deliver “unmatched value” and operational benefits, while maintaining compatibility with existing Gen2 standards.
The next-generation, Gen2X-enabled dual-frequency ICs are expected to reach the market in 2027.
