AFL has expanded its fiber installation portfolio with the introduction of the Fujikura 100S Fusion Splicer and the CT60 Fiber Cleaver, targeting productivity and consistency challenges facing today’s fiber deployment teams. The launch comes as operators and contractors accelerate network builds to support data centers, 5G backhaul, and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) rollouts, placing greater emphasis on speed without compromising splice quality.

The Fujikura 100S is a core-alignment fusion splicer designed to reduce manual setup and operator dependency. Its dual-fiber capability allows technicians to prepare and load two fibers simultaneously, a feature AFL says can cut splicing preparation time by as much as 30% compared with conventional single-fiber systems. The splicer also incorporates Splice Coach, an on-device guidance function that provides real-time feedback on splicing technique, helping standardize results across varying skill levels in the field.

Beyond productivity, the 100S integrates asset protection features that are becoming increasingly relevant for large-scale projects. Built-in GPS tracking and location-based locking enable operators to monitor equipment usage and help prevent loss or unauthorized operation across distributed job sites and contractor teams.

Complementing the splicer, the CT60 Fiber Cleaver introduces further automation into fiber preparation. The cleaver features an enhanced Auto Blade Adjustment system with 28 blade positions, allowing for finer control and extended blade life. Its ergonomic design supports one-handed operation, and Bluetooth connectivity enables communication with compatible Fujikura splicers, reducing the need for manual coordination between tools during installation.

“Fiber deployments today demand faster execution while maintaining high splice quality,” said Megha Garlapati, product line manager at AFL. “By automating adjustments that once relied heavily on experience, the 100S and CT60 help technicians focus on producing reliable splices rather than managing setup complexity.”

As the authorized distributor of Fujikura splicers in North America, AFL said it will support the new tools with round-the-clock technical assistance, expert repair services, same-day turnaround, and a broad inventory of parts and consumables. Fujikura’s splicers, recognizable by their yellow transit cases, remain widely used across data centers, underground installations, and FTTH projects, reflecting their long-standing role in global fiber infrastructure development.
