Blizzard Secures Limited License in Cree LED Settlement

Lawsuit name plate

Cree LED, a Penguin Solutions brand (Nasdaq: PENG), and Blizzard Lighting LLC have announced a settlement that resolves a patent infringement dispute related to LED components commonly used in LED display applications. The agreement brings an end to litigation between the two companies and establishes a framework for limited, licensed use of certain Cree LED technologies.

Under the terms of the settlement, Cree LED has granted Blizzard Lighting a limited license to specific patents covering LED components. The companies described the outcome as mutually beneficial, allowing Blizzard to continue operations while addressing Cree LED’s intellectual property concerns.

Cree LED stated that the agreement reflects its broader commitment to protecting its patented technologies, which underpin ongoing innovation in LED display performance, reliability, and quality. As a U.S.-based manufacturer with substantial investments in research and development, the company said it actively monitors the global market for unauthorized use of its intellectual property.

This oversight extends across the LED display value chain, including manufacturers, suppliers, specifiers, and end users. Cree LED emphasized that safeguarding its patents helps ensure customers receive products built on validated, high-performance technologies while supporting continued advancement in the LED display market.
