LitePoint, Aethertek, Metanoia Collaborate on 5G FR2 Open RAN

5G

LitePoint, Aethertek, and Metanoia have announced a three-way collaboration aimed at accelerating the development, validation, and commercialization of next-generation 5G FR2 (mmWave) Open Radio Units (O-RUs). The partnership is focused on enabling high user throughput and increased network capacity in dense and congested environments, supporting bandwidth-intensive applications such as video streaming, augmented and virtual reality, and cloud-based gaming.

By combining their respective technologies, the companies intend to deliver a fully verified and interoperable FR2 O-RU platform designed for global Open RAN deployments. The initiative brings together Aethertek’s mmWave radio expertise, Metanoia’s O-RAN compliant baseband technology, and LitePoint’s 5G FR2 testing and validation capabilities to streamline development and improve deployment readiness.

As part of the collaboration, the companies will present a live 5G FR2 O-RU demonstration at Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona. The demonstration will feature Aethertek’s mmWave O-RU platform incorporating high-performance beamforming phased array antenna technology. It will also highlight Metanoia’s O-RAN Split 7.2 software-defined radio (SDR) baseband PHY, optimized for FR2 performance, power efficiency, and multi-vendor interoperability. LitePoint will contribute its 5G FR2 test and validation system, enabling over-the-air (OTA) performance characterization, beamforming verification, and O-RAN compliance testing.

According to the companies, the collaboration is designed to ensure that operators, system integrators, and ecosystem partners receive O-RU solutions that are fully tested and deployment ready. Adam Smith, Vice President of Marketing at LitePoint, said the integration of 5G FR2 test capabilities into the O-RU design cycle can help developers reduce time to market while maintaining performance and reliability. Perry Lin, Director of Business Development at Aethertek, noted that validated beamforming and RF performance are critical for next-generation FR2 deployments. Stewart Wu, Chairman and CEO of Metanoia, added that the joint demonstration reflects the maturity of its programmable SDR PHY for real-world mmWave applications.
