Magnachip Semiconductor Corporation (NYSE: MX) has announced the launch of its 8th-generation 40V and 60V medium-voltage (MV) MOSFETs, targeting power supply units in servers and high-performance PCs. The move comes amid rising global demand for efficient and high-density power solutions in data centers and advanced computing environments.
As data-intensive applications and artificial intelligence workloads continue to scale, power efficiency and density have become critical considerations for semiconductor components used in servers and data center infrastructure. Magnachip’s latest product line is designed to address these requirements while enhancing reliability across high-performance systems.
The newly introduced MOSFETs are optimized for use in the synchronous rectification (SR) stage of server and PC power systems. Leveraging advanced SGT (Shielded Gate Trench) technology, the 40V variants deliver up to 40% improvement in current density and approximately 25% faster switching speeds compared to previous-generation products. Meanwhile, the 60V variants achieve up to 50% higher current density and 60% faster switching performance.
To further improve system stability, the devices incorporate fast anti-parallel diode technology, enabling rapid dissipation of residual current during switching operations. This is expected to enhance overall efficiency and operational reliability in demanding computing environments.
The MOSFETs are engineered to operate at temperatures of up to 175°C, ensuring stable performance under high thermal conditions commonly found in data centers and industrial systems. Additionally, the devices are packaged in a compact PDFN56 form factor, supporting high-density and space-efficient power designs.
Built to comply with JEDEC standards, the new MOSFETs are not limited to server and PC applications. They are also suitable for use in solar inverters and industrial power systems, where efficiency and durability are critical.
The launch expands Magnachip’s 8th-generation MV MOSFET portfolio, following the introduction of a 0.7mΩ 40V product in May 2025. The company has now added three new variants—0.8mΩ 40V, 1.0mΩ 40V, and 1.05mΩ 60V—offering a broader range of voltage and RDS(on) options to meet diverse customer requirements.
According to Omdia, the global server and data center power supply market is projected to grow from approximately $2.3 billion in 2025 to $3.0 billion by 2029, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.4%. Magnachip aims to leverage this growth by strengthening its presence in the high-value power semiconductor segment.
Commenting on the development, Chief Technology Officer Hyuk Woo said the new products are designed to enhance both efficiency and reliability in server and high-performance PC power systems. He added that the company will continue to expand its portfolio with advanced power solutions across computing and industrial applications.
