Aptiv PLC (NYSE: APTV) is collaborating with Comau to explore the co-development of next-generation automation solutions across robotics, autonomous systems, and industrial logistics.

The partnership, established through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), sets a framework for joint innovation in key areas such as advanced robotics, AI-driven systems, and automated warehouse operations. It reflects a growing industry push toward intelligent automation as manufacturers and logistics providers seek greater efficiency, safety, and scalability.

The move comes as industrial systems evolve rapidly, with increasing reliance on edge computing, real-time data processing, and AI-enabled decision-making. Companies are under pressure to modernize operations while managing costs and complexity, particularly as automation becomes more central to competitiveness.

Jay Bellissimo, Senior Vice President and President of Intelligent Systems, Software and Services at Aptiv, said the collaboration aims to simplify the adoption of advanced automation technologies. He noted that combining Aptiv’s strengths in perception, compute, and software with Comau’s expertise in robotics and industrial deployment could help customers accelerate digital transformation.

Comau, a global player in industrial automation, brings deep experience in robotics integration across complex production environments. Giovanni Volpes, Chief Extended Europe Officer at Comau, said the partnership is expected to support customers in adopting AI and preparing for a future where autonomy plays a central role in industrial productivity.

The collaboration will leverage Aptiv’s portfolio, including Wind River edge platforms, Aptiv PULSE sensor technologies, and high-performance interconnect solutions. These capabilities will be integrated with Comau’s robotics and automation systems to create solutions tailored for real-world industrial applications.

In its initial phase, the partnership will focus on several high-value use cases. These include advanced robotics, where the companies will develop perception and compute architectures for autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and collaborative robots (cobots). The aim is to enable more responsive and adaptive systems in dynamic environments.

Another area of focus is AI-enabled warehouse and logistics automation. The companies plan to enhance Comau’s Automha software using cloud and edge technologies to support machine learning at the edge. This is expected to improve system intelligence, real-time responsiveness, and operational efficiency.

The collaboration will also explore high-performance interconnect solutions, including ruggedized cabling and modular connectors designed for demanding industrial conditions. These components are critical to ensuring reliability and efficiency in automated systems.

In addition, the companies plan to develop radar and vision-based safety systems. These solutions aim to enhance worker protection through real-time monitoring while reducing system complexity and cost.

The partnership builds on an existing relationship between the two companies. Comau has used Wind River’s VxWorks in its industrial controllers, while Aptiv has deployed Comau robots in its manufacturing facilities.
