UK-based ORCA Computing has deployed its PT Series photonic quantum computer to a major enterprise customer in Japan, with support from Toyota Tsusho Corporation, marking the first installation of an ORCA quantum system within a private-sector enterprise.
The deployment was completed in less than a week in a live enterprise environment. The system will be used to support hybrid quantum-AI applications across manufacturing, logistics, optimization, advanced engineering, and generative AI workloads.
According to the companies, the project represents a key milestone in the partnership between ORCA Computing and Toyota Tsusho. It also highlights growing efforts to bring quantum computing into commercial operations.
The deployed system is ORCA’s PT-2 photonic quantum computer. It has been integrated into cloud services that support the customer’s global operations. The system will work alongside existing high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, enabling hybrid quantum-AI workflows within the enterprise IT environment.
Later this year, the PT-2 system is expected to be upgraded to ORCA’s next-generation PT-3 platform. The upgrade is designed to provide higher processing performance and deeper integration with classical computing systems.
“Toyota Tsusho is proud to support the introduction of this quantum computing capability into the Japanese enterprise market,” said Norihito Ohigashi, Manager of the Digital Infrastructure Department at Toyota Tsusho. He added that the initiative aligns with the company’s efforts to promote advanced technologies for manufacturing and intelligent infrastructure.
ORCA Computing said the deployment demonstrates the growing maturity of photonic quantum computing and its readiness for real-world business applications.
“This endeavor demonstrates how quickly quantum computing can move from concept to real-world operation,” said Richard Murray, PhD, co-founder and chief executive officer of ORCA Computing. He noted that deploying the system in under a week highlights the practicality of the company’s technology for enterprise environments.
The announcement builds on ORCA Computing’s efforts to expand the adoption of quantum computing in data center and enterprise settings. The company has been focusing on hybrid quantum-classical architectures that combine quantum processing with AI and conventional computing resources.
The deployment also reflects increasing interest in quantum computing across Japan’s industrial sector. Companies are exploring the technology for applications ranging from supply chain optimization and manufacturing efficiency to advanced analytics and AI-driven workloads.
