Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TOKYO: 6981) has expanded its Product Information Management (PIM) API Service to cover all 73 product categories in its product database, broadening access to component data for electronics designers, developers, and procurement teams.
The move reflects growing demand across the electronics industry for automated access to component information as manufacturers digitize design, sourcing, and supply chain processes.
Until now, Murata’s API service was limited to ceramic capacitors and inductors. Users seeking information on other product lines often had to retrieve and update data manually, creating additional administrative work and increasing the risk of missing specification changes or product lifecycle updates.
With the expanded service, customers can access information across Murata’s full product portfolio through their own engineering and procurement systems. Available data includes product specifications, lifecycle status, S-parameters, and SPICE Netlists.
The development comes as electronics manufacturers face increasing pressure to manage complex supply chains while shortening product development cycles. Real-time visibility into component availability and status has become a growing priority, particularly following recent years of supply chain disruptions and component shortages across the semiconductor and electronics sectors.
By allowing customers to automatically synchronize product information with internal platforms, the service is intended to reduce manual processes and improve responsiveness to product changes. Engineers can obtain updated technical data directly within existing workflows, while procurement teams can monitor product status and identify alternative components when required.
Component obsolescence remains a persistent challenge for electronics manufacturers, particularly in long-life industrial, automotive, and infrastructure applications. Access to current lifecycle information can help companies mitigate redesign risks and avoid unexpected sourcing issues during production.
The expansion also highlights a broader shift within the electronics industry toward greater integration between component suppliers and customer digital platforms. As product development increasingly relies on connected design environments and automated procurement systems, manufacturers are seeking faster and more reliable ways to access technical and supply chain information.
For Murata, the broader API coverage extends the role of its product database beyond a reference tool, positioning it as a direct data source for engineering and procurement operations across a wider range of electronic components.
