Fujifilm Holdings Corp. (TSE: 4901) is expanding its broadcast optics portfolio with the FUJINON UA94x8.7BESM, a new 4K broadcast zoom lens designed for 2/3-inch sensor cameras and a wide range of live production applications.
Fujifilm North America Corporation’s Optical Devices Division announced the availability of the lens ahead of IBC 2026 in Amsterdam. The UA94x8.7 will be showcased at the event from September 11 to 14, with initial customer shipments expected to begin by mid-October.
The new lens sits between Fujifilm’s UA70x8.7BESM and UA107x8.4BESM in its broadcast lineup. It is designed for production environments that require a broad focal-length range without the extreme telephoto capabilities of the company’s higher-end box zoom lenses.
The UA94x8.7 offers a 94x zoom range, covering focal lengths from 8.7mm at the wide-angle end to 818mm at the ultra-telephoto end. This range allows operators to move from wide shots to distant subjects without changing lenses.
That flexibility is aimed at sports broadcasts, concerts and other large-scale live events where camera positions and shooting requirements can change rapidly.
“UA94x8.7 sits in a sweet spot for applications where operators don’t necessarily need the extreme telephoto ranges,” said Stosh Durbacz, vice president of Sales at Fujifilm North America’s Optical Devices Division.
4K Performance Across the Zoom Range
Fujifilm said the UA94x8.7 has been developed to maintain 4K image quality across its entire zoom range.
The lens uses Fujifilm’s proprietary optical simulation technology to reduce optical aberrations that can affect resolution and create color fringing. The company said this helps maintain image quality from wide-angle through ultra-telephoto settings.
The lens also incorporates Fujifilm’s HT-EBC, or High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating. The multi-layer coating provides light transmittance of up to 99.8% and reflectance of 0.2% across a broad wavelength range.
The coating is designed to improve color reproduction and reduce flare. Combined with the lens’ optical design, Fujifilm said it enables high resolution, high contrast and high dynamic range (HDR) performance.
The specifications are intended to support demanding broadcast workflows where image consistency is important throughout a production.
Stabilization and Operator Controls
The UA94x8.7 also includes Fujifilm’s latest image stabilization technology. Its Ceramic Ball Roller System is designed to reduce camera movement and provide more stable footage.
Operators can select from eight stabilization levels depending on the subject and shooting environment. The range is intended to accommodate different conditions, from relatively static concert productions to fast-moving outdoor sports.
The lens also supports Fujifilm’s ERD-50A Zoom Demand. When paired with the accessory, operators can select from 200 zoom curves and switch image stabilization on or off.
For focus control, the lens can be paired with Fujifilm’s EPD-51A Focus Demand. The system provides digital focus control while retaining an operating experience designed for live-production workflows.
Fujifilm said the optional servo focus control combines the ergonomics of manual operation with the precision of digital focus. This is intended to help operators make smoother adjustments during live broadcasts.
Positioning in Fujifilm’s Broadcast Portfolio
The UA94x8.7 is positioned as a mid-range option within Fujifilm’s box zoom lineup.
The UA70x8.7 is aimed at relatively compact venues, while the UA107x8.4 provides greater telephoto reach. The new lens is intended for applications that need more range than the UA70x8.7 but do not require the longer focal lengths offered by models such as the UA107x8.4 and UA125x8.
Fujifilm said the approach allows broadcasters and production companies to cover more shooting situations with a single lens while controlling equipment costs.
The lens also brings optical and electrical improvements over comparable Fujinon HD lenses covering similar focal lengths. Its combination of 4K support, HDR performance, stabilization and operator controls is designed for modern live-production requirements.
The timing comes as broadcasters and live-event producers continue to adopt higher-resolution production workflows. Sports, concerts and large-scale events increasingly require cameras and optics capable of delivering detailed images across changing distances and lighting conditions.
Fujifilm will present the UA94x8.7 at IBC 2026 in Amsterdam before commercial availability begins in October.
Initial orders are expected to ship to customers by mid-October 2026. The company has not disclosed pricing in the announcement.
