IonQ, Inc. (NYSE: IONQ) has received final regulatory approval to complete its acquisition of SkyWater Technology (Nasdaq: SKYT), clearing the way for the quantum computing company to strengthen its domestic semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.
The companies said the transaction, first announced in January 2026, is expected to close on July 31, following the completion of remaining administrative arrangements.
IonQ said the acquisition will support its long-term strategy of accelerating the development of next-generation quantum computers through a chip-focused manufacturing approach while establishing a fully scalable U.S.-based supply chain.
Following the completion of the transaction, SkyWater will continue operating under its existing name as a wholly owned subsidiary of IonQ. The company will remain an independent U.S.-based semiconductor foundry, continuing to serve its existing commercial and government customers while supporting IonQ’s quantum computing roadmap.
The acquisition combines IonQ’s quantum computing technologies with SkyWater’s semiconductor manufacturing and development capabilities, enabling the companies to support a broader quantum technology ecosystem.
SkyWater is the largest exclusively U.S.-based semiconductor foundry, and the deal is expected to strengthen IonQ’s access to domestic chip manufacturing at a time when quantum computing companies are increasingly seeking greater control over critical supply chains and advanced semiconductor production.
With all required regulatory approvals secured and closing conditions satisfied, the companies expect to finalise the acquisition by the end of the week, marking a key milestone in IonQ’s expansion into quantum hardware manufacturing.
