Apple Launches MacBook Neo, Its Most Affordable Laptop Yet

MacBook Neo

Apple has introduced a new entry-level laptop, the MacBook Neo, expanding its Mac portfolio with a lower-cost device designed to bring Apple’s computing ecosystem to a broader audience. Announced from Cupertino, California, the laptop starts at $599, making it the most affordable Mac notebook introduced by the company to date.

The new MacBook Neo combines Apple’s aluminum hardware design with its custom silicon architecture, aiming to balance performance, battery life, and portability at a more accessible price point. The laptop features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2408 by 1506 pixels, brightness of up to 500 nits, and support for one billion colors. According to Apple, the display offers higher brightness and sharper visuals compared with many laptops available in the same price category.

At the core of the device is the A18 Pro chip, designed to support everyday computing tasks such as web browsing, document creation, media streaming, and photo editing, while also enabling on-device artificial intelligence capabilities. Apple says the processor delivers up to 50 percent faster performance for everyday tasks compared with leading PCs powered by the latest Intel Core Ultra 5 processors. For AI-related workloads such as applying advanced photo effects, the device is claimed to offer up to three times faster performance.

The system integrates a five-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine designed to accelerate machine learning workloads. These capabilities support features within Apple’s AI framework, Apple Intelligence, which brings AI-assisted tools such as writing assistance, photo editing, and content summarization across compatible applications while keeping data processed on device for privacy.

Battery life is another focus of the device. Apple states that MacBook Neo can deliver up to 16 hours of battery life on a single charge, supported by the power efficiency of Apple silicon. The laptop also features a fanless design, allowing it to run silently during operation.

In terms of hardware design, MacBook Neo uses a durable aluminum enclosure and weighs approximately 2.7 pounds, positioning it as a lightweight and portable system for students, professionals, and everyday users. The laptop is available in four color options — blush, indigo, silver, and citrus — marking one of the more colorful MacBook lineups released by Apple. The design theme extends to the Magic Keyboard and system wallpapers.

The device includes Apple’s Magic Keyboard and a large Multi-Touch trackpad designed to support gesture-based navigation across the operating system. Models equipped with Touch ID allow users to unlock the device and authorize purchases using biometric authentication.

For video communication and media consumption, MacBook Neo includes a 1080p FaceTime HD camera with optimized image processing. Dual microphones with directional beamforming are designed to reduce background noise and enhance voice clarity during video calls. The laptop also features dual side-firing speakers that support Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos for immersive sound playback.

Connectivity options include two USB-C ports that support charging, accessories, and external displays. The laptop also features a headphone jack, Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, and Bluetooth 6 for wireless peripherals and accessories.

MacBook Neo runs on macOS Tahoe, the company’s latest operating system for Mac computers. The platform includes built-in applications such as Safari, Messages, Photos, and FaceTime, along with productivity tools and AI-enabled capabilities. It also integrates closely with the iPhone through Apple’s Continuity features, enabling functions such as Handoff, Universal Clipboard, and iPhone Mirroring for cross-device workflows.

Apple has also emphasized sustainability in the design of the device. The company says MacBook Neo contains approximately 60 percent recycled materials, including recycled aluminum in the enclosure and recycled cobalt in the battery. The enclosure is produced using a material-efficient forming process designed to reduce aluminum usage, while manufacturing incorporates renewable energy sources across the supply chain. Packaging for the product is fully fiber-based and designed for easier recycling.

“MacBook Neo delivers the magic of the Mac at a breakthrough price,” said John Ternus, senior vice president of Hardware Engineering at Apple. “Built from the ground up to be more affordable for even more people, MacBook Neo combines Apple silicon performance, a Liquid Retina display, all-day battery life, and the intuitive experience of macOS.”

The laptop is available for pre-order starting today in more than 30 countries and regions through Apple’s online store and retail locations. Customer deliveries and in-store availability are scheduled to begin on March 11. Pricing starts at $599, while education pricing begins at $499.

With the launch of MacBook Neo, Apple appears to be targeting students, first-time laptop buyers, and cost-conscious consumers seeking entry into the Mac ecosystem.
