JBL Launches Cove Whole-Home Audio System With Dolby Atmos and AI Sound Boost

JBL has launched JBL Cove, a new whole-home Wi-Fi audio system designed to bring synchronized and room-by-room audio to consumers through a single connected speaker platform.

The new range includes three wireless speakers: JBL Cove M1, JBL Cove P1 and JBL Cove X1. Each model can operate independently, work as part of a stereo pair or join a multi-room system through the JBL One app.

The launch marks JBL’s latest push into the connected home audio market. The company is positioning Cove around simpler setup, flexible room control and technologies designed to maintain sound quality across different spaces.

The three models target different use cases. Cove M1 is the compact option for everyday home listening. Cove P1 adds portability, a built-in battery and Dolby Atmos support. Cove X1 is the flagship model, with a larger driver configuration designed for room-filling sound.

JBL Cove M1 is priced at $229.95. Cove P1 costs $399.95, while Cove X1 is priced at $449.95. All three models will be available in black and white from September 13, 2026, through JBL’s website.

Three Speakers, One Connected System

The central feature of JBL Cove is its ability to operate as a whole-home system without requiring users to repeatedly regroup speakers.

Users can create a multi-room group through the JBL One app and play audio across several rooms. They can also stream to an individual room without having to dismantle an existing group.

That approach addresses one of the practical challenges of multi-room audio. Changing where music plays can often require users to adjust speaker groups or reconnect devices.

JBL Cove is designed to make those changes directly through its connected system.

The speakers use Wi-Fi as the primary network connection. They also support Bluetooth, AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Roon Ready, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Qobuz Connect.

The company is also offering Spotify Tap through the Moment button. This provides one-touch access to Spotify without requiring users to navigate through the app.

Alexa Built-In provides voice control and smart-home functionality. Alexa+ is also supported, although the AI assistant is initially available in the U.S. to eligible Prime members and Alexa+ subscribers.

Dolby Atmos Comes to Two Models

Dolby Atmos is available on the Cove P1 and Cove X1.

The P1 is designed as the portable member of the lineup. It includes a battery rated for up to 14 hours of playback and an IP56 rating. The speaker can therefore be moved around the home while retaining its role in the wider Wi-Fi audio system.

Its driver configuration includes three 30mm and one 20mm silk-dome neodymium tweeters, with one of the tweeters positioned upward. A 4-inch woofer handles lower frequencies.

Cove X1 is aimed at users seeking higher output and a larger soundstage. It features four 30mm silk-dome neodymium tweeters, including one up-firing unit, along with two 4-inch woofers.

The X1 is the most expensive model in the range at $449.95.

Cove M1 does not support Dolby Atmos. It uses two 30mm and one 20mm silk-dome neodymium tweeters alongside a 4-inch woofer.

Automatic Sound Optimization

JBL has built several audio-processing technologies into the Cove range.

All three models feature automatic room calibration. The system is designed to adjust performance based on the room and speaker placement.

The speakers also use JBL’s Constant Sound Field technology. The company says this is intended to provide balanced sound across the listening area.

AI Sound Boost is another common feature across the lineup. It is designed to reduce distortion when the speakers are operating at higher volumes.

These technologies are aimed at addressing a basic problem in home audio: a speaker’s performance can change significantly depending on where it is positioned.

Instead of requiring users to manually adjust settings for each room, JBL Cove uses automatic calibration to optimize the output.

Moving From Music to Home Theater

JBL is also connecting Cove to its existing soundbar ecosystem.

The speakers are compatible with JBL Bar Series MK2 soundbars, including the JBL Bar 300, 500, 700, 1000 and 1300X MK2 models.

Cove M1 and Cove P1 can be used with compatible soundbars as rear channels for a more immersive Dolby Atmos home theater configuration. Cove X1 supports JBL Bar MK2 for multi-room music, according to the launch specifications.

This integration gives JBL a way to extend a consumer’s audio system beyond standalone speakers. A user could start with a single Cove speaker and later add additional speakers or integrate compatible products into the same connected environment.

JBL is also introducing a Music Follows Me feature. Users can press and hold the Moment button to move music or TV audio between connected listening locations without needing to use a phone or open the app.

Wi-Fi Over Traditional Bluetooth

The company’s emphasis on Wi-Fi also separates Cove from conventional Bluetooth speakers.

Bluetooth speakers generally establish a direct connection with a source device. Wi-Fi speakers operate through the home network.

For a whole-home system, that distinction matters. Wi-Fi allows multiple speakers to remain connected across rooms. Audio can continue playing even when the user’s smartphone leaves a room or receives a call.

Wi-Fi also provides greater bandwidth for high-resolution audio. With services such as Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect and Qobuz Connect, content can stream directly to the speaker rather than passing continuously through a phone.

A Three-Tier Product Strategy

The three-speaker lineup gives JBL different entry points into the whole-home audio market.

The Cove M1 is positioned as the entry model. Its compact design and $229.95 price make it the most accessible option.

The Cove P1 sits in the middle at $399.95. Its differentiators include portability, a 14-hour battery, IP56 protection and Dolby Atmos.

The Cove X1 occupies the flagship position at $449.95. Its four-tweeter, dual-woofer architecture is designed for higher-performance, room-filling audio.

All three speakers share the core platform. They support whole-home audio, stereo pairing, automatic room calibration, Constant Sound Field and AI Sound Boost.

That common platform is important to JBL’s broader proposition. Consumers can start with one speaker and expand the system over time rather than committing to a complete multi-room setup at the outset.

JBL’s Home Audio Push

Carsten Olesen, President of Consumer Audio at HARMAN, said the launch represents a step in JBL’s effort to expand its position in home audio.

He said the company is combining JBL’s established sound profile with greater flexibility and simpler operation across the home.

The launch also reflects a broader shift in consumer audio. Speakers are increasingly becoming connected endpoints within larger entertainment systems. Music streaming, smart-home controls, multi-room playback and home theater are converging around common networks and applications.

JBL Cove is designed around that convergence.

The company will begin selling the three models on September 13. The initial lineup gives consumers a choice between a compact stationary speaker, a portable Dolby Atmos model and a higher-performance flagship.

For JBL, the bigger objective is to establish Cove as a scalable home audio platform. Its combination of Wi-Fi connectivity, multi-room control, automatic calibration and soundbar integration gives the company a system that can extend beyond a single speaker.

The success of the platform will ultimately depend on how easily consumers adopt that connected approach and whether the performance and convenience justify the premium over conventional wireless speakers.
