HyperLight Corporation, developer of the TFLN Chiplet platform, has introduced its 145 GHz Packaged Intensity Modulator (IM), expanding the company’s high-speed modulator portfolio. The new device is designed to support ultra-wide modulation bandwidths, high signal fidelity, and stable operation, enabling 448 Gbps per lane intensity-modulated-direct-detection (IMDD) links, 260 GBaud coherent transmission, and broadband RF photonics applications.
Rising symbol rates and increased analog bandwidth requirements across data center interconnects, AI-driven photonics infrastructure, and laboratory test environments have created demand for intensity modulators exceeding 130 GHz that remain practical to deploy. HyperLight’s 145 GHz IM addresses this need, offering more than 145 GHz bandwidth in a compact packaged form factor with a 0.8 mm RF connector interface engineered for high-frequency integration.
The modulator is available across multiple wavelength bands, including O-, C-, and L-band, with a 1 µm variant available for pre-order. The device integrates polarization-maintaining optical fiber and delivers a high extinction ratio, improving modulation contrast and measurement clarity for demanding laboratory and system validation workflows.
Built using Telcordia-qualified TFLN photonic integrated circuits (PICs), the 145 GHz IM is designed for high optical and RF power handling, enabling wideband modulation performance while maintaining robust and reliable operation. The compact package facilitates deployment in system prototyping, test environments, and photonics infrastructure applications where bandwidth, fidelity, and stability are critical.
“The industry is pushing beyond 100 GHz, and customers need packaged modulators they can trust at those bandwidths,” said Mian Zhang, CEO of HyperLight. “Developing ultrahigh-performance and reliable 145 GHz photonics technology has been a major challenge. Our modulator leverages the TFLN Chiplet platform and provides early, reliable access to next-generation high-bandwidth photonics capabilities for datacom and telecom applications.”
HyperLight’s 145 GHz Packaged Intensity Modulators are now available in O-, C-, and L-band configurations, with the 1 µm-band configuration offered for pre-order.
