MaxLinear, Inc. has expanded its industrial connectivity portfolio with the introduction of the MxL8323x family of RS-485/RS-422 half-duplex transceivers, designed to deliver high-speed, reliable communication in electrically harsh industrial environments.
The new product lineup—including the MxL83232, MxL83233, MxL83234, MxL83235, and MxL83236—supports scalable data rates ranging from 500 kbps to 50 Mbps. This flexibility allows system designers to optimize performance, electromagnetic interference (EMI), and noise immunity across a wide range of industrial control applications. By offering multiple speed options within the same family, the devices enable platform reuse while accommodating diverse system requirements.
Engineered for demanding operating conditions, the MxL8323x transceivers incorporate robust protection features to ensure reliable communication. These include resistance to electrical fast transient (EFT) events up to ±4 kV, contact electrostatic discharge (ESD) up to ±8 kV, and air-gap ESD up to ±15 kV. Additionally, an extended ±15 V common-mode voltage range allows stable data transmission even in environments with significant ground potential differences.
The devices are designed to support modern embedded systems with a wide operating voltage range of 3.0 V to 5.5 V and a logic interface spanning 1.65 V to 5.5 V. This enables seamless integration with low-voltage microcontrollers and system-on-chip (SoC) platforms, helping reduce design complexity, power consumption, and printed circuit board (PCB) footprint.
For network scalability, the MxL8323x family features a 1/8 unit load receiver input impedance, supporting up to 256 nodes on a single bus. This makes the devices suitable for large-scale industrial networks, including smart factory automation, motor drive systems, HVAC infrastructure, industrial computing, building security, and smart grid applications.
Additional features such as slew rate control, hot-swap glitch protection, and ultra-low-power shutdown modes further enhance system reliability and efficiency. The transceivers are rated for operation across an industrial temperature range of –40°C to +125°C, ensuring consistent performance in extreme conditions.
According to market insights, the global RS-485 transceiver market is projected to grow steadily, driven by increasing adoption of industrial automation and smart infrastructure technologies. MaxLinear’s latest offering is positioned to address this demand by providing high-performance, scalable connectivity solutions.
The MxL8323x family is currently in production and available in industry-standard, environmentally compliant packages. Evaluation boards and samples are also available, enabling engineers to accelerate design and deployment of next-generation industrial communication systems.
