Seoul Semiconductor Gains Vietnam High-Tech Status

Seoul Semiconductor’s VINA production facility in Vietnam

Seoul Semiconductor Co., Ltd. has been granted “High-Tech Enterprise” certification in Vietnam, marking a key milestone in its regional expansion and technological recognition.

The certification is awarded under Vietnam’s Law on High Technology. It is given to companies that meet strict benchmarks in innovation, R&D investment, and high-tech product revenue. For Seoul Semiconductor, the recognition reflects its strong intellectual property base, with over 15,000 independent patents, and its standing in the global optoelectronics market.

The company’s Vietnam unit, VINA, plays a central role in this achievement. Built with an investment of around $800 million, the facility employs nearly 3,000 people. About 700 of them work in research and development. The site operates as an integrated manufacturing hub. It produces a wide range of optoelectronic components, including UV, RGB, infrared, and laser diodes. Its production capacity exceeds 4 billion units per month.

Seoul Semiconductor has maintained a steady focus on innovation. It has invested about 10% of its annual revenue in R&D for nearly three decades. The company has also built a fully integrated production system. This spans chip manufacturing, packaging, and module development. Its global footprint includes facilities in South Korea, Vietnam, the United States, and China. This network supports a stable and flexible supply chain.

The certification brings additional benefits. These include tax incentives, land rental advantages, and administrative support from the Vietnamese government. The status is expected to strengthen the company’s operational base in the country and support future growth.

Vietnam continues to attract global technology investments. Several major firms, including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, LG Electronics, and LG Display, have also received similar recognition.

Seoul Semiconductor said it will continue to expand its presence in Vietnam. The company views the country as a key manufacturing base. It also plans to advance its work in optoelectronics and strengthen its global market position.
