Shukra Signs MoU with Borns Medical Robotics for AI Surgery Systems

Contract Signing

Shukra Pharmaceuticals has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with US-based Borns Medical Robotics to introduce and commercialise AI-enabled soft-tissue surgical robotic systems across India and select South Asian markets. The agreement was signed in early January 2026 and marks a strategic move by the Indian firm into advanced medical technology.

The proposed collaboration will be implemented through Shukra’s wholly owned subsidiary, Shukra Robotics Pvt. Ltd., and is subject to regulatory approvals in each target market. The partnership covers India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, and Bhutan, with a focus on expanding access to robot-assisted minimally invasive surgical solutions in the region.

Under the MoU framework, Borns Medical Robotics will contribute its expertise in high-precision surgical robotics and artificial intelligence. Its technology portfolio includes the “Veer Surgical Robot,” a soft-tissue surgical platform designed to support surgeons with enhanced accuracy, stability, and standardised digital workflows. The systems integrate AI to assist clinical decision-making and improve procedural efficiency.

Shukra Pharmaceuticals will be responsible for regulatory clearances, market access, and distribution across South Asia. The company will also lead commercial engagements with hospitals and healthcare providers. In addition, the partnership outlines plans for technology transfer and structured training programmes for clinicians, aimed at supporting safe adoption and long-term use of robotic-assisted surgery.

The collaboration aligns with Shukra’s broader strategy to diversify beyond pharmaceuticals into high-value medtech segments. By entering the surgical robotics space, the company aims to strengthen its healthcare portfolio, unlock new hospital partnerships, and tap into the growing global demand for minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgical procedures.

The MoU also complements Shukra’s recent infrastructure expansion plans. The company has received a letter of intent from the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) to establish a medical device park facility in Greater Noida. The proposed project involves an investment of Rs 600 crore and is expected to support medical device manufacturing and create more than 900 jobs.

No financial terms have been disclosed as part of the MoU, and the agreement does not include direct funding commitments. The progress of the partnership will depend on regulatory approvals and market readiness across the targeted countries. Shukra plans to fund commercialisation activities through its robotics subsidiary, while Borns Medical Robotics will provide technology and technical support.

If executed as planned, the partnership is expected to drive revenue growth through hospital contracts and sales of AI-enabled surgical robotic systems. It also positions Shukra Pharmaceuticals to build a long-term presence in the rapidly expanding global surgical robotics ecosystem.
