Qnity Opens Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing Facility in Delaware

Qnity leaders and government officials, including Delaware Governor Matt Meyer

Qnity Electronics, Inc. has expanded its domestic manufacturing footprint with the inauguration of a new 385,000-square-foot facility in Newark, Delaware, marking a significant step in strengthening semiconductor supply chain capacity in the United States.

The opening was commemorated through a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by government officials, community leaders, and industry partners, including Matt Meyer. The facility forms part of Qnity’s multi-year investment strategy aimed at expanding advanced manufacturing capabilities to address rising demand for semiconductor materials.

Demand for semiconductors has accelerated in recent years, driven by emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and advanced connectivity. Industry projections suggest the global semiconductor market could approach $1 trillion in revenue within the next few years, placing increased pressure on supply chains to scale production capacity and innovation.

According to Jon Kemp, the new site strengthens the company’s ability to respond to evolving customer requirements while ensuring regional manufacturing capacity. He noted that the expansion also supports collaborative innovation across the semiconductor value chain through targeted investments in advanced production infrastructure.

The Delaware facility houses a newly commissioned manufacturing line dedicated to producing components for chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) pads—specialized polishing discs used during semiconductor fabrication to smooth chip surfaces. CMP pads play a critical role in wafer processing, particularly at advanced technology nodes where the complexity of chip manufacturing has increased significantly.

As AI-driven chip designs require a higher number of CMP steps per wafer, the demand for CMP materials is expected to grow rapidly. The new production line aims to deliver enhanced reliability and quality performance needed for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing.

Governor Meyer highlighted the broader economic significance of the facility, stating that investments such as Qnity’s reinforce Delaware’s role in supporting next-generation technologies while creating jobs and manufacturing opportunities in the region.
