Samsung Electronics has expanded its foldable smartphone portfolio with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8, broadening its lineup as the company looks to bring foldable devices to a wider audience and deepen the role of artificial intelligence in mobile computing.

The new range introduces three distinct form factors, each targeting different user segments. Samsung said the devices combine seven generations of foldable engineering with AI features tailored to larger displays and compact designs, reflecting a broader industry shift toward smartphones that act as intelligent personal assistants rather than standalone hardware.

The launch comes as global smartphone vendors increasingly rely on premium devices and AI-powered software to drive upgrades in a slowing handset market. Foldables remain a small but growing segment, with manufacturers betting improved durability, slimmer designs and productivity features will attract more mainstream buyers.

Samsung’s flagship Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is positioned as its highest-performance foldable. The device features an 8-inch main display, a 200-megapixel primary camera and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy. It weighs 215 grams and measures 4.1 mm when unfolded, making it Samsung’s thinnest Fold device to date.

The Fold8 Ultra is designed for multitasking and professional content creation. Samsung said it combines an upgraded camera system with improved low-light photography, 8K video recording using the APV codec and Cine LUT tools for mobile video production. The handset also features a 5,000mAh battery, 45W fast charging and an expanded graphite cooling system to manage heat during intensive workloads.

Alongside the Ultra model, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold8, a lighter foldable aimed at everyday entertainment and productivity.

Weighing 201 grams, Samsung said it is the lightest Galaxy Fold released so far. The device features redesigned display ratios intended to improve reading, gaming and video playback. Its 10:16 cover display is optimised for everyday tasks such as messaging and browsing, while the unfolded 4:3 main screen provides a larger workspace for media consumption and multitasking.

The Fold8 is powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and includes a larger 4,800mAh battery. Samsung has also introduced a new Flex Titanium display structure across the Fold series. The titanium-based design is intended to improve durability, reduce crease visibility and enable slimmer devices without compromising structural strength.

Both Fold models feature displays capable of reaching up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness, supported by Vision Booster technology for improved outdoor visibility.

Samsung has also upgraded the Fold8 camera system with dual 50-megapixel sensors covering wide and ultra-wide photography. Software features such as Dual Recording allow users to capture both sides of a scene simultaneously, while My FanCam automatically tracks subjects and reframes videos into preferred aspect ratios.

The Galaxy Z Flip8 targets users seeking a more compact device focused on personal expression and quick interactions.

At 180 grams and 6.1 mm thick, Samsung said it is the slimmest Flip model in the series. A redesigned FlexWindow cover display places apps, notifications and AI-powered features directly on the outer screen, reducing the need to open the device for routine tasks.

Samsung has expanded FlexWindow functionality with AI-driven features such as Now Brief, which delivers personalised updates, and Gemini Intelligence, allowing users to perform connected actions through voice commands or side-key activation.

Photography remains a central feature of the Flip lineup. The Flip8 includes a 50-megapixel camera paired with Samsung’s ProVisual Engine, alongside Flex Mode for hands-free shooting, improved image stabilisation and mirror-style selfie tools that leverage the folding design.

Artificial intelligence forms the core of Samsung’s latest software strategy across all three devices.

The company has optimised Galaxy AI for each form factor, enabling multitasking on larger displays while adapting AI interactions to the Flip’s compact cover screen. New features include Now Nudge, which suggests context-aware actions during conversations, and expanded Gemini Intelligence capabilities that work across more than 40 applications and services.

Samsung said users can combine notes, images, recordings and documents through Gemini Notebook while drag-and-drop functionality on split-screen displays simplifies content organisation and creation. The company is also extending AI experiences across connected devices, including Galaxy Watch models and future wearable products.

As AI becomes more deeply integrated into mobile devices, Samsung is also placing greater emphasis on privacy and security.

The new lineup incorporates Samsung Knox security, on-device AI processing through the Personal Data Engine, encrypted storage using Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection and hardware-level security via Knox Vault. One UI 9 introduces an AI Assistant Activity dashboard, allowing users to review AI-generated actions and monitor how personal data is used.

The latest devices also support updated migration tools for users switching from Apple’s iPhone ecosystem. Samsung has enhanced Smart Switch with QR code-based wireless transfers and added AirDrop compatibility through Quick Share for cross-platform file sharing.

Samsung said the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8 are available for pre-order in selected markets starting immediately, with retail availability to follow. The company is offering multiple colour options across the lineup alongside Samsung Care+ support plans.
