Advanced Energy Launches 160W Ruggedized AC-DC Power Supply for Extreme Environments

power electronics

Advanced Energy Industries (Nasdaq: AEIS) has launched the DF150, a 160W ruggedized AC-DC power supply designed for equipment operating in harsh environments across defense, industrial, telecommunications, transportation and energy applications.

The DF150 is the first product in Advanced Energy’s Defiant Future series of standard power supplies designed for high-reliability applications. The company said the series combines extensive military-standard validation with the availability and lead-time advantages of a standard commercial product.

The DF150 delivers a nominal 27V DC output at 6A, with a rated power of 160W. It is designed to operate across temperatures ranging from -46°C to +60°C without performance degradation.

Built for Harsh Operating Conditions

The power supply is certified to MIL-STD-810H, covering environmental conditions including shock, vibration, altitude changes and thermal extremes. It also carries MIL-STD-461G certification for electromagnetic compatibility.

Advanced Energy said the unit has an IP67 rating, allowing it to withstand dust exposure and temporary submersion in water. The rating exceeds the company’s stated military-standard ingress protection requirements for dust and liquids.

Efficiency and Cooling Options

The DF150 reaches up to 91% efficiency at full load and can operate without a minimum load requirement. Advanced Energy also specifies low leakage current of 275µA at 230VAC.

Its MIL-STD-461G certification covers a range of electromagnetic compatibility tests, including RE102, CE102, CS101, CS114, CS115, CS116, CS118 and RS103.

For thermal management, the power supply can be configured for conduction cooling through a base plate or convection cooling using a mounted heatsink. Advanced Energy also offers different input cable configurations and case-color options.

Joe Voyles, vice president of Industrial Power Conversion Products at Advanced Energy, said the Defiant Future series is intended for applications where power reliability is critical.

The DF150 is positioned as a standardized alternative for applications that might otherwise require custom power-supply designs. Its combination of environmental certifications, thermal operating range and configurable cooling options is intended to support equipment deployed in demanding operating conditions.

Advanced Energy said the DF150 establishes the initial offering in the Defiant Future series, with the product family aimed at providing ruggedized power conversion for a range of industrial and mission-critical systems.
