Butterfly Network Appoints Semiconductor Veteran Mike Noonen to Board

Board-Of-Directors

Butterfly Network, Inc. (NYSE: BFLY) has appointed semiconductor industry veteran Mike Noonen to its Board of Directors as the medical imaging company expands its focus on semiconductor technology, cloud software and artificial intelligence.

Noonen’s appointment will take effect October 9, 2026. He will serve on the Board’s Compensation Committee and Technology Committee, bringing the Board to seven directors.

Noonen Brings Three Decades of Semiconductor Experience

Noonen has spent 30 years in the semiconductor industry, including leadership roles that resulted in two initial public offerings and multiple acquisitions.

He most recently served as CEO of Swave Photonics, a fabless semiconductor company developing holographic chips. Before that, he was CEO of MixComm, a semiconductor company focused on 5G and satellite communications. Sivers Semiconductors acquired MixComm in 2022.

Earlier in his career, Noonen held senior positions at GlobalFoundries and NXP Semiconductors. At GlobalFoundries, he served as executive vice president of global products, design, sales and marketing. At NXP, he was executive vice president of worldwide sales and marketing.

His experience also includes semiconductor startups and industry organisations. Noonen co-founded Silicon Catalyst, a semiconductor-focused incubator, and served as its chairman. The organisation was named EE Times Start-Up of the Year in 2015.

He was elected to the Global Semiconductor Alliance Board of Directors in 2013.

Noonen holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Colorado State University, which named him its College of Engineering Distinguished Alumnus of the Year in 2012.

Focus on Next-Generation Silicon

Butterfly said Noonen’s semiconductor background will support its technology strategy as the company develops its next generation of silicon and expands the Butterfly Embedded ecosystem.

Butterfly develops semiconductor-based ultrasound devices alongside cloud software and AI technologies. Its approach is aimed at making ultrasound imaging more portable and accessible across healthcare settings.

Joseph DeVivo, president, CEO and chairman of Butterfly, said Noonen’s industry experience will add perspective as the company advances its platform strategy and semiconductor development.

Noonen said Butterfly’s use of semiconductor technology in medical imaging demonstrated the potential to expand access to ultrasound and that the platform remains at an early stage of its potential.

The board appointment comes as semiconductor expertise becomes increasingly important to Butterfly’s product strategy. By combining proprietary silicon with software and AI, the company is pursuing a technology model that extends beyond conventional ultrasound hardware.
