Cirrus Logic Acquires Italian Mixed-Signal Chipmaker INVENTVM

ZMC Absorbs American Semiconductor Silicon Solutions & Services Firm Pure Wafer

Cirrus Logic, Inc. (NASDAQ: CRUS) has acquired INVENTVM Semiconductor, a fabless semiconductor company based in Pavia, Italy, expanding its engineering capabilities in mixed-signal power management and audio integrated circuits.

The acquisition gives Cirrus Logic access to INVENTVM’s engineering expertise and intellectual property as it seeks to expand its semiconductor portfolio into additional applications and markets.

Acquisition Expands Engineering Capabilities

INVENTVM specialises in mixed-signal power management and audio ICs and has an established presence in Italy’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Cirrus Logic said the company’s team has worked closely with its own organisation for several years, providing an existing foundation for integration following the acquisition.

John Forsyth, president and CEO of Cirrus Logic, said the transaction adds intellectual property, engineering capacity and technical talent to the company as it pursues what he described as its strongest pipeline of opportunities to date.

The company also expects the acquisition to support development of new products and broaden its addressable markets.

Michele Chiabrera, CEO of INVENTVM, said the combination would give the Italian semiconductor team opportunities to advance its technology and support customers within a larger global organisation.

Focus on Power Management and Audio

The acquisition strengthens Cirrus Logic’s capabilities in two areas closely connected to semiconductor system design: mixed-signal power management and audio.

Mixed-signal ICs combine analog and digital functions and are used across a range of electronic systems. Power-management chips regulate and manage electrical power within devices, while audio ICs support functions including sound processing and amplification.

Cirrus Logic has not disclosed the financial terms of the transaction. The company said the acquisition is not expected to have a material impact on its revenue.

The deal comes as semiconductor companies increasingly use acquisitions to add specialised engineering capabilities and intellectual property while shortening development timelines for new products.

For Cirrus Logic, INVENTVM adds engineering resources in Europe while supporting its broader strategy of expanding beyond its existing markets. The company said the acquisition will help accelerate product development and strengthen its ability to address new applications.

The transaction also builds on an established relationship between the two companies, potentially reducing integration challenges compared with an acquisition involving an unfamiliar engineering organisation.
