Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) is acquiring Bangalore-based C2i Semiconductors, expanding its capabilities in digital power management as demand for electricity-intensive artificial intelligence data centers accelerates.
C2i Semiconductors develops software-defined multiphase controllers and smart power stages for AI data center applications. Infineon said the acquisition will complement its existing power semiconductor and power systems portfolio and strengthen its ability to deliver power solutions across the data center infrastructure, from the grid to individual processors.
The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of calendar 2026, subject to customary closing conditions.
The acquisition comes as AI servers require increasingly sophisticated power delivery systems. Advanced processors are driving higher power densities while workloads can create rapid changes in power demand. This places greater pressure on data center infrastructure to regulate electricity efficiently and respond quickly to changes in processor loads.
Software-defined power systems address that challenge by combining power semiconductors with digital controls and software algorithms. The technology can adjust power conversion and regulation in real time, helping improve efficiency, manage power losses and maintain system stability.
C2i’s technology takes a system-level approach to power delivery, covering infrastructure from the grid to the processor. Infineon said the combination will support more adaptive power architectures for AI servers and high-performance computing platforms.
“C2i Semiconductors brings exceptional expertise in software-defined power management and system-level power architectures,” said Adam White, president of Infineon’s Power Systems division. He said the acquisition would support the development of next-generation vertical power delivery architectures and expand Infineon’s digital power capabilities.
A key element of the deal is its potential impact on Infineon’s engineering operations in India. The company plans to establish a center of excellence for digital power technologies in the country, adding C2i’s engineering expertise to its global research and development network.
Infineon currently employs about 2,800 people in India, which has become an increasingly important location for semiconductor engineering and technology development.
For Infineon, the deal adds specialized digital power capabilities to a portfolio that already includes silicon, silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) power technologies. The company also develops vertical power delivery solutions and said the combined capabilities could contribute to future Substrate Integrated Voltage Regulators, or SIVRs.
Vertical power delivery is gaining attention as AI processors become more power-dense. Moving voltage regulation closer to the processor can reduce power losses and improve the efficiency and responsiveness of the overall power delivery system. As AI accelerators consume more electricity, these architectural changes are becoming increasingly important to data center designers.
C2i founder and CEO Ram Anant said the company was established to bring greater intelligence to power delivery systems and address the increasing energy demands of AI infrastructure.
“Joining Infineon gives us access to world-class semiconductor technologies, manufacturing capabilities, and global customer relationships,” Anant said, adding that the combination could accelerate the development and deployment of software-defined power architectures.
The acquisition also reflects a broader shift in the semiconductor industry, where power management is becoming a more strategic component of AI infrastructure. While much of the focus around AI data centers has centered on processors, memory and networking, the ability to deliver sufficient power efficiently is increasingly emerging as a constraint on system performance and expansion.
Infineon’s combination of power semiconductors, digital controls and system-level power technologies is aimed at addressing that constraint across multiple layers of the infrastructure.
The acquisition gives Infineon access to C2i’s specialized engineering team while providing C2i with the manufacturing scale, semiconductor portfolio and global customer reach of a major power technology supplier. For Infineon, the deal also strengthens India’s role within its global innovation network as the company targets the rapidly expanding power requirements of AI and high-performance computing.
