Intel and Fortinet have expanded their long-standing partnership to develop Fortinet’s next-generation Security Processor 6 (SP6), combining semiconductor design, advanced packaging and manufacturing capabilities to accelerate cybersecurity innovation while strengthening supply chain resilience.
The collaboration brings together Fortinet’s expertise in purpose-built security processors with Intel’s semiconductor design, packaging and manufacturing technologies. The companies said the effort is intended to speed the development of SP6 while diversifying Fortinet’s global supply chain.
The announcement comes as organisations face increasingly sophisticated cyber threats and rising demand for security infrastructure capable of handling AI-driven workloads, encrypted traffic and high-performance network security services.
According to the companies, the new security processor will integrate Fortinet’s application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) technology with Intel’s ecosystem intellectual property, disaggregated chip design expertise and advanced packaging capabilities. The aim is to deliver a highly integrated processor capable of supporting more complex cybersecurity services while meeting the growing performance demands of enterprise and cloud environments.
The partnership also reflects a broader industry trend of cybersecurity companies working more closely with semiconductor manufacturers to develop specialised processors that improve security performance while reducing latency and power consumption.
Intel Chief Executive Officer Lip-Bu Tan said organisations require security infrastructure that can deliver both innovation and performance as cyber threats continue to evolve.
“This collaboration demonstrates how Intel’s semiconductor leadership and advanced design, packaging and manufacturing capabilities can help cybersecurity leaders like Fortinet accelerate the development of critical security technologies while building a more resilient and diversified global supply chain,” Tan said.
Fortinet Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ken Xie said the company’s purpose-built ASICs have been central to its cybersecurity portfolio for more than two decades.
He said the expanded relationship with Intel would strengthen Fortinet’s ASIC strategy by leveraging Intel’s semiconductor technologies, manufacturing expertise and global supply chain capabilities while supporting customers worldwide.
Beyond SP6, the companies said they will explore additional opportunities to deepen collaboration across semiconductor technologies, manufacturing and cybersecurity infrastructure. The work is expected to support Fortinet’s long-term ASIC roadmap, enhance security performance and provide greater supply chain assurance for enterprise customers as demand for specialised cybersecurity hardware continues to grow.
