Zenno Astronautics, a New Zealand-founded space technology company focused on superconducting systems for space applications, has announced plans to redomicile to the United States and establish its global headquarters in Los Angeles.
The company will retain its presence in New Zealand while expanding its operations in the U.S. as part of a broader strategy to increase its access to aerospace customers, investors, government programmes and engineering talent. Zenno said it will also evaluate future investments in manufacturing, testing and operational infrastructure in the country.
The move comes as demand increases for advanced space infrastructure and defence technologies, with companies and governments investing in new capabilities to support commercial and national security missions.
Zenno develops superconducting technologies and cryogenic cooling systems designed for space applications. The company said these technologies could play a role in enabling future space infrastructure by improving the efficiency and capability of next-generation systems.
“Moving our headquarters in Los Angeles is a strategic step that positions Zenno where the world’s aerospace and defence industry is advancing most rapidly,” said Max Arshavsky, CEO and co-founder of Zenno Astronautics.
He said the U.S. provides access to customers, partners, talent and government programmes, while Los Angeles offers proximity to a major aerospace ecosystem.
Zenno said New Zealand will continue to be an important part of its innovation and engineering operations. The company plans to build on the technical expertise developed there while expanding its commercial and operational presence in the U.S.
The company also intends to become part of Southern California’s aerospace community by growing its U.S. workforce and collaborating with industry partners, government agencies and universities.
Los Angeles has emerged as a major hub for space technology companies, supported by a concentration of aerospace manufacturers, research institutions, venture capital firms and defence organisations.
Zenno said its U.S. expansion aligns with its long-term goal of developing superconducting technologies that can support more efficient and sustainable space operations.
The company is focused on advancing systems that convert energy into useful work, with applications spanning future commercial space infrastructure and national security initiatives.
