Cree LED, a brand of Penguin Solutions (NASDAQ: PENG), has launched its new XLamp XE-B LEDs, expanding its XLamp Element family with a smaller form factor designed for high-intensity directional lighting applications.

The new LEDs feature an ultra-compact 0.9 mm x 1.4 mm package. According to the company, the design delivers higher light intensity while giving manufacturers greater flexibility in product development.

Cree LED said the XE-B LEDs provide up to 60% higher intensity than existing LEDs with a larger 1 mm x 1 mm light-emitting surface (LES). The increased intensity is intended to help lighting manufacturers achieve stronger optical performance from a smaller light source.

The product targets applications that require compact size, precise beam control, and color flexibility. These include indoor directional lighting, architectural lighting, entertainment lighting, and aftermarket automotive lighting.

The launch comes as lighting manufacturers increasingly seek smaller and more efficient components to support compact product designs without compromising performance.

“The smaller source size combined with higher intensity allows us to use smaller optics, making our products lighter and more compact while integrating seamlessly into modern vehicle designs,” said Eduard Grigoras.

The XE-B LEDs are built on Cree LED’s Element platform. The architecture minimizes the distance between the LED chip and the package edge, allowing tighter LED spacing and improved optical control.

According to the company, this design also enables better integration with secondary optics, an important consideration for directional lighting systems where beam precision is critical.

Thermal performance was another focus during development. The LEDs incorporate a large electrically isolated thermal pad that creates a direct thermal path to the heat sink. This helps dissipate heat more efficiently and supports long operating lifetimes, even at maximum current.

Joe Clark, President of Cree LED, said the new product continues the company’s focus on advancing LED performance and design flexibility.

“XLamp XE-B LEDs reflect our ongoing commitment to advancing LED technology and supporting our customers’ evolving needs,” Clark said. “With each new product, we aim to expand design possibilities while delivering strong performance and reliability.”

The company also highlighted the product’s color capabilities. The XE-B portfolio includes 17 color options along with a full range of white LEDs. A uniform package design and consistent 1A maximum current across all colors simplify system integration and support accurate color mixing.

With the launch of the XE-B series, Cree LED is targeting lighting manufacturers looking for compact, high-intensity solutions for commercial, industrial, entertainment, and automotive applications. The company believes the new LEDs will enable more efficient designs while offering greater optical performance and spectral flexibility.
