Biznet Upgrades Indonesia Submarine Cable Network With Ciena

Adi Kusma, President Director, Biznet

Indonesian digital infrastructure company Biznet has upgraded its submarine cable network using technology from Ciena to strengthen high-speed connectivity and support rising digital demand across Indonesia.

The deployment involves Ciena’s WaveLogic 5 Extreme (WL5e) technology on Biznet Nusantara Cable System-1 (BNCS-1), the company’s submarine cable network connecting Java, Sumatra, and Bangka Islands.

According to the companies, the upgrade is aimed at enabling 400G high-speed services while improving internet reliability, network efficiency, and international connectivity capacity. The initiative is also expected to support Indonesia’s ongoing digital transformation efforts as demand for bandwidth continues to grow across enterprise and consumer markets.

Biznet said the enhanced infrastructure will help improve connectivity between domestic and global networks while supporting faster and more stable digital services. The company added that the rapid growth of AI-powered applications, cloud computing, video streaming, and digital platforms is increasing the need for low-latency and high-capacity network infrastructure.

As part of the deployment, Ciena Services and Terrabit Networks are jointly supporting the design and integration of Ciena’s 6500 platform powered by WL5e technology. The deployment is designed to integrate with Biznet’s broader fiber network infrastructure across Indonesia.

Biznet is also implementing Ciena’s Navigator Network Control Suite to improve network automation, operational efficiency, and service provisioning capabilities.

Adi Kusma said the company remains focused on improving customer digital experiences and meeting increasing bandwidth requirements in Indonesia’s evolving digital economy.

Ciena said Southeast Asia is emerging as a major connectivity hub as AI adoption and digital infrastructure investments continue to accelerate across the region.

Alex Wong said the upgrade would help improve spectral efficiency, strengthen network scalability, and support long-term connectivity growth.

The latest initiative expands Biznet’s earlier collaboration with Ciena across several Indonesian regions, including Java, Bali, Sumatra, Batam, Bangka, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Flores.

In addition to expanding BNCS-1 capacity, the project also strengthens the Batam–Singapore link, enabling higher international gateway capacity and faster access to global digital services.
