Samsung Electronics and French artificial intelligence company Mistral AI have entered a strategic partnership to deploy on-premises AI technologies across Samsung’s semiconductor operations, targeting chip design, manufacturing and process optimization as semiconductor complexity increases.
The partnership, announced during a South Korea-France state summit in Paris, will bring Mistral’s AI services and models, including its flagship Mistral Large model, into Samsung’s semiconductor infrastructure. The companies said the collaboration will focus on customized AI models designed to operate within Samsung’s own environment.
Samsung Electronics, part of the publicly traded Samsung Group, will also lead Mistral AI’s Series D funding round and take a strategic equity stake in the company.
AI Moves Into Chip Design and Manufacturing
Samsung plans to apply Mistral’s AI capabilities to sensitive semiconductor engineering and manufacturing workloads. Running the technology on premises is intended to allow Samsung to process operational and technical data within its own infrastructure, giving the company greater control over information tied to chip development and production.
The approach is particularly relevant as advanced memory, logic and foundry processes generate increasingly large volumes of data. Samsung said targeted AI models could be used for applications including defect detection and equipment optimization, helping engineers analyze manufacturing data more rapidly.
The company expects these applications to support faster development cycles, improve manufacturing precision and contribute to yield stabilization across advanced semiconductor operations.
“Increasing complexities involved in AI chip design and manufacturing requires continuous innovation in semiconductor technologies,” said Young Hyun Jun, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Device Solutions Division at Samsung Electronics.
Samsung said the partnership will support its efforts to address evolving customer requirements across advanced memory, logic and foundry services.
Mistral Gains Strategic Investment
For Mistral AI, the agreement expands its presence in semiconductor engineering while providing a strategic investment from one of the world’s largest electronics and chip manufacturers.
“AI is reshaping how we build complex technologies, from silicon to software,” said Arthur Mensch, co-founder and CEO of Mistral AI.
Mensch said the company will work with Samsung on electronics and semiconductor applications aimed at improving chip design and manufacturing and accelerating development across the semiconductor and AI value chain.
Samsung’s leadership of Mistral’s Series D round adds a financial component to the technology partnership. The investment gives Samsung a strategic equity position while aligning the two companies around longer-term development of enterprise AI applications for semiconductor operations.
The collaboration comes as chipmakers increasingly look to AI to automate engineering analysis, identify manufacturing anomalies and optimize increasingly complex production processes. For Samsung, integrating AI directly into its semiconductor infrastructure could allow these tools to be deployed across operations handling advanced memory, logic and foundry workloads.
The companies did not disclose the size of Samsung’s investment or provide a timeline for broader deployment of the customized AI systems.
Samsung said the partnership forms part of its wider effort to accelerate AI adoption across its semiconductor operations while combining its chip technologies with emerging AI capabilities.
