French Semiconductor Video IP Firm Allegro DVT Adds AV2 Support to Pulsar Decoder IP

Allegro Digital Video Technology

Allegro DVT, a provider of semiconductor video intellectual property (IP) and video compliance tools, has added support for the emerging AV2 video codec to its Pulsar D400 Series Multi-Standard Decoder IP, expanding its portfolio of technologies for next-generation streaming applications.

The announcement follows the company’s plans, unveiled in September 2025, to develop products for the AV2 ecosystem, including semiconductor IP and video compliance solutions.

AV2 is the next-generation open and royalty-free video compression standard being developed by the Alliance for Open Media (AOM). The codec is designed to support growing demand for higher-quality video streaming while enabling advanced applications such as augmented and virtual reality content, multi-view streaming, split-screen experiences, and improved screen-content coding.

With the addition of AV2 support, Allegro DVT said its Pulsar D400 Series will help system-on-chip (SoC) and ASIC developers prepare for future video workloads and evolving streaming requirements.

The decoder IP supports multiple video standards, including H.264, HEVC, VVC, VP9, and AV1. According to the company, the architecture is designed to deliver these capabilities while optimizing silicon area, memory bandwidth, and power consumption.

Allegro DVT develops video processing IP cores and compliance tools used by semiconductor companies, consumer electronics manufacturers, and technology developers to integrate video encoding and decoding capabilities into their products.

The company said its solutions help simplify system integration and reduce memory bandwidth requirements, enabling customers to build high-performance video platforms for modern streaming services.

“Although the AV2 codec specification was finalized only a few weeks ago, we are already seeing strong early demand worldwide,” said Nouar Hamze, Chief Executive Officer of Allegro DVT.

Hamze said the company has already delivered its AV2 D440 Decoder IP to three customers, highlighting early market interest in AV2-enabled products.

In addition to semiconductor IP, Allegro DVT offers compliance and validation tools for video standards. These include the Sirius AV2 Test Suites and the Astralis AV2 Bitstream Analyzer, which help developers test interoperability and verify compliance with the new codec specification.

The company said the Pulsar D400 platform is designed to scale across a range of applications, including streaming services and 8K video deployments. It also features optimized DDR memory bandwidth management to improve overall system efficiency.

The launch positions Allegro DVT among the early suppliers supporting AV2 technology as the industry prepares for broader adoption of the new standard. As demand grows for higher compression efficiency and support for emerging media formats, AV2-compatible hardware and development tools are expected to play an increasingly important role in the video ecosystem.
