Altera Corporation and European electronics distributor Rutronik have signed a strategic distribution agreement aimed at expanding customer access to Altera’s FPGA portfolio across Europe.
The agreement adds Rutronik to Altera’s distribution network as the FPGA company expands its multi-distributor strategy. The companies said the partnership will give customers greater purchasing flexibility, technical support and supply-chain options across the European market.
Rutronik will combine its regional distribution network with technical expertise to support customers using programmable logic devices in applications ranging from industrial automation and communications to edge AI and embedded systems.
“As an independent FPGA company, Altera is focused on delivering the solutions customers need to innovate faster,” said Thomas Boudrot, head of EMEA sales at Altera. He said Rutronik’s technical sales team and focus on customer support would add to Altera’s channel ecosystem.
Rutronik’s field application engineers and technical sales teams cover programmable logic, embedded architecture, power management, connectivity and system-level design. The distributor will also leverage its Rutronik System Solutions platform, which provides reference designs, development platforms and application-specific technical guidance.
The companies said these resources are intended to simplify FPGA implementation, reduce development risks and support customers through different stages of the product lifecycle.

The partnership comes as programmable technologies are being used across a broader range of applications, including edge AI, industrial automation, machine vision, communications infrastructure and high-performance embedded systems.
Altera and Rutronik said the agreement will provide customers across Europe with access to FPGA technologies and engineering support for industrial automation, smart mobility, communications, medical technology and edge AI applications.
