Dopl Secures $6.3 Million for Telerobotic Ultrasound Technology

Medical technology startup Dopl Technologies has raised $6.3 million in seed funding to accelerate development and regulatory approval of its telerobotic ultrasound platform, as healthcare providers increasingly explore remote diagnostic technologies to expand access to imaging services in underserved communities.

The funding round was led by SpringTide Ventures and brings Dopl’s total capital raised to more than $8 million. The company’s investor base now includes more than a dozen strategic, institutional and community-focused investors across the United States, including WRF Capital, Tacoma Venture Fund, HeartX, Transform Health Ventures and Precursor Ventures.

Dopl said the new funding will support product verification and validation, clinical evaluation, regulatory submissions and initial commercialisation as it seeks U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its remote robotic ultrasound ecosystem.

The company’s platform comprises Traverse, a robotic ultrasound system that enables remote scanning, Dopl Connect, a secure connectivity and data platform, and SonoFlex, a workforce and workflow management solution designed to coordinate distributed clinical operations.

Together, the technologies are intended to allow trained sonographers to remotely perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations across multiple healthcare facilities, including hospitals and clinics in rural and underserved areas where access to imaging specialists remains limited.

Unlike conventional robotic medical systems that rely on proprietary hardware, Dopl said its platform is hardware-agnostic, integrating commercially available robotic systems, ultrasound machines, haptic controllers and imaging cameras. The approach is designed to enable healthcare providers to deploy the technology using existing hospital infrastructure rather than investing in entirely new equipment.

The funding will also support pilot deployments following regulatory approval as the company prepares for its initial market launch.

Dopl was founded by a former NVIDIA Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) medical AI engineer alongside practicing cardiologists and radiologists. Its broader engineering and clinical team includes professionals with experience at Butterfly Network (NYSE: BFLY), Philips, Microsoft Corporation (Nasdaq: MSFT) and Amazon.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN).

“Our outstanding team is energized and now capitalized to move quickly through the regulatory process to deliver reliable, remote robotic ultrasound to patients who today must often travel hours to receive essential care,” said Ryan James, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Dopl Technologies.

He said the company’s long-term goal is to enable specialty imaging services to be delivered remotely through telerobotic and autonomous healthcare technologies, helping address persistent gaps in access to diagnostic care.

While awaiting FDA clearance, Dopl has introduced CareBridge, an interim ultrasound service that provides hospitals with travelling sonographers to maintain uninterrupted diagnostic imaging services. The company said the programme allows it to build partnerships with healthcare providers while collecting operational insights from clinicians and patients.

According to Dopl, hospitals using CareBridge have reported reductions in patient wait times of up to 90%, and those health systems are expected to become early adopters of the company’s robotic ultrasound platform once regulatory approval is obtained.

Austin Walters, co-founder and managing partner at SpringTide Ventures, said the investment reflects growing interest in physical AI technologies that combine robotics with healthcare delivery.

He said Dopl’s platform has the potential to create a more efficient operating model for health systems while allowing qualified sonographers to work remotely and expand access to diagnostic imaging services.

The investment comes as healthcare providers increasingly evaluate robotics, artificial intelligence and telemedicine technologies to address workforce shortages and improve access to specialised care. If cleared by the FDA, Dopl’s platform could enable hospitals to extend ultrasound services beyond traditional clinical settings while reducing geographic barriers to diagnostic imaging, particularly in rural communities where specialist availability remains limited.
