Nordson Corporation (Nasdaq: NDSN) has completed its acquisition of Contrinex, a Switzerland-based manufacturer of high-performance sensors, expanding its industrial automation and test and inspection capabilities.
Headquartered in Corminboeuf, Switzerland, Contrinex generates approximately $50 million in annual revenue and employs nearly 500 people. Its technologies serve factory automation and related industrial applications.
Acquisition Adds Precision Sensor Technologies
Contrinex’s portfolio includes inductive position sensors, photoelectric position sensors and smart measurement sensors with integrated logic. These products support applications requiring precise detection and measurement, including operations in harsh environments and miniature precision-positioning systems.
The acquisition complements Nordson’s existing test and inspection portfolio, adding capabilities in industrial sensing as manufacturers adopt more automated production processes.
Contrinex will be integrated into Nordson’s Advanced Technology Solutions segment, which serves customers across electronics, medical, industrial and other markets.
“We are excited to welcome Contrinex’s nearly 500 employees into the Nordson family,” said Srini Subramanian, executive vice president of Nordson Advanced Technology Solutions. He said the acquisition strengthens the company’s focus on factory automation and control solutions.
Deal Supports Nordson’s Growth Strategy
Nordson said the acquisition advances its Nordson Ascend Strategy, which focuses on growth through differentiated technologies while targeting strong margins and returns.
The company plans to apply its NBS Next growth framework to Contrinex, with an emphasis on investing in growth opportunities and expanding the sensor maker’s products across Nordson’s global customer base.
The combined portfolio gives Nordson additional technologies for industrial customers seeking sensing and control solutions. The company’s international sales network could also provide Contrinex with access to a broader customer base.
Nordson did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
Industrial Automation Drives Demand for Sensing
Industrial sensors are used to detect objects, measure position and support machine control. As manufacturers introduce automated production systems, these technologies help monitor processes, coordinate equipment and improve manufacturing precision.
Contrinex’s products give Nordson additional exposure to these applications, complementing its existing precision technology and inspection businesses.
Founded in 1954 and headquartered in Westlake, Ohio, Nordson develops precision technology systems for consumer non-durables, medical, electronics and industrial markets. The company operates through a division-led business model and maintains operations and support offices in more than 35 countries.
